A Most Excellent Bar-Be-Que (BBQ) Sauce!

This sauce is without wheat, gluten or sugar, but it is really tasty!

Most Excellent Bar-Be-Que (BBQ) Sauce

Combine the following ingredients in a saucepan, and simmer uncovered over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened:

1 cup Heinz ketchup (Heinz is made from fresh tomatoes, not canned tomato paste)
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons maple sugar (or sorghum molasses or honey...)
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon or brown mustard
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon dried onion
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon salt

Optional if you want it sweeter:
2 tablespoons honey

Brush on your favorite meat during the last 10 minutes of cooking or use as a dipping sauce.  Store tightly covered in the refrigerator any leftovers.
