Why SteviaPlus?

You may be wondering why I chose to use a specific stevia product in my low carb cookbook rather than just saying to use any stevia product available. And, for that matter, why stevia at all? Why not just any sweetener? This page is here to answer those questions!

Why Stevia?
Stevia is a plant-based sweetener that has been used for generations by South American natives safely as a natural calorie free sweetener. It has no carbohydrate value! This is great news for those following a low carb diet (like Atkin’s diet), diabetics and others who are trying to control their carbohydrate intake. It is an all natural substance rather than an artificial sweetener. Unlike some artificial sweeteners, it does not break down when it is heated. That is good news to me!

Why SteviaPlus®?
Why did I choose SteviaPlus® rather than some other stevia based product, or couldn’t I have just generically said “stevia powder” in my low carb recipes? SteviaPlus® is standardized to be the same all the time -- there will not be variations in the results of the recipes. Also it contains FOS -- a healthy dietary fiber that is reputed to help stabilize blood sugar levels and assist in the healing process of candida.

FOS has an added benefit for those following a low carb diet, like Atkin’s diet, in that it is pure fiber, thus deductible if you follow a low carb plan that allows for fiber deduction (Effective Carb Count or ECC). What that means is that SteviaPlus® has an ECC of ZERO!

I love your info! I am a big stevia and oregano oil fan! I love reading about your holistic health ways, I can relate:)The more natural we are and the more natural ways we heal ourselves the better for us and for the environment! I agree about the steviaplus being my favorite stevia brand, i have tasted a few brands and always go back to sweetleaf steviaplus, they have it at walmart these days at the best price around.

Cool! I did not know that it is now available at WM -- I'll have to let folks know when they ask about it :)

Thanks for the feedback -- I truly appreciate it!
